Stoma-The surgical hole made in the neck
Tracheostomy-The plastic tube that goes into the stoma
Paramedic Interventions
Oxygen Delivery-Trach mask or a pediatric mask
PPV-Attach the BVM directly to the trach or use a peds BVM mask or you can insert a small ET Tube into the stoma
When ventilating, pinch the nose shut and cover their mouth
Trach Suctioning
Sterile gloves
use a small French suction catheter (Soft tip)
Suction on the way out
Need some Saline
Suctioning Time
Adults-Less than 10 sec
Peds-Less than 5 sec
