  • High pitched whistling, heard on inhalation

  • Indicates a partial upper airway obstruction

  • Epiglottitis

  • Laryngotracheitis (Croup)

  • Choking

  • Smoke inhalation

  • Airway burns

  • Anaphylaxis/Allergic Reaction

Wheezing (Lower)

  • High pitched whistling, most often heard on exhalation

  • Indicates bronchoconstriction

  • Asthma

  • Anaphylaxis/Allergic Rx

  • Pneumonia

  • COPD-Chronic Bronchitis

Rhonchi (Lower Airway)

  • Productive cough

  • COPD-Chronic bronchitis

  • Pneumonia

  • Bronchitis

  • Bronchiolitis

Crackles (Rales) (Pulmonary Edema)-Lower

  • Accumulation of fluid in the alveoli

  • Left sided H.F

  • Pneumonia

  • Aspiration

  • Drownings

  • Causes pleuritic CP-CP on inhalation

  • Pleuritis

COPD

  1. Chronic Bronchitis

  2. Emphysema

Chronic Bronchitis

  • Blue Bloaters (Cyanotic & Fat)

  • Inflammation of the bronchioles, accumulation of thick mucous

  • Have an issue getting air in

  • Hypoxic

  • Rhonchi & Wheezing

  • Low spo2

  • SOB/Dyspnea

  • Tachycardia

Emphysema

  • Pink Puffers

  • Very thin, usually older

  • A problem getting air out

  • Destruction of the alveoli, causing a loss of elasticity, leading to air trapping

  • Diminished lungs or a quiet chest

  • Hypoxic drive-co2 is dictating when they breathe

  • Pursed lip breathing

  • Normal Spo2-88-91%

  • Barrel chest

***If you give high amounts of O2, it can knock them out of their hypoxic drive, and lead to Respiratory failure

Gastro=Stomach

Entero=Small intestine

Gastroenteritis (Stomach Bug)

  • Inflammation/infection of the stomach and small intestine

  • Severe vomiting

  • Severe diarrhea

  • Fever

  • generalized abdominal pain

  • Chills

  • Anorexia-loss of appetite

Peptic=Stomach
