UTI (urinary Tract Infection)

  • Kidneys (all internal structures-nephrons, renal tubules)

  • Ureters

  • Bladder

  • Urethra


  • Pyelonephritis

  • Glomerulonephritis

  • Cystitis (Cyst=Bladder)-Bladder infection

  • Urethritis





Stress Incontinence

  • Inability to control urination due to stress (Sneezing, coughing, laughing)



Pyelonephritis

  • A direct bacterial infection of the kidney

  • Affects 1 kidney

  • Develops from a lower UTI (VUR)-from retaining urine






Glomerulonephritis

  • Do NOT have toxic symptoms

  • Affects BOTH KIDNEYS!!!

  • Occurs post-infection (occurs after having another infection)

  • Strep throat is the common infection that leads to this issue

  • Auto immune

  • Meaning-The immune system has developed antibodies from the previous strep infection, and they are now attacking the glomerulus

  • Glomerulus=Regulates filtration!!!!

  • Decreased GFR

  • Azotemia

  • Lead to fluid retention in the body (Peri-orbital edema, pedal edema)

  • HTN=Headache





Anastomosis

  • The joining together of 2 things

  • AV Fistula (Anastomosis)
